About

Who We Are

Moon Below the Sun is a press and record label releasing music, writings, photography and film in limited editions. We are centered on fostering artistic connection and unity across geographies. Our mission is to look beyond genre and medium in order to focus on depth of feeling, emotional authenticity, and intentions of an artist’s work. We are a semi-nomadic operation with roots in the United States, საქართველო (Georgia), and Türkiye.

Our Philosophy

We believe in art that reminds us of our shared impermanence and the beauty of our human flaws. Our work centers on analog expressions that breathe with organic tension: acoustic music and film shaped by the endurance of the body and the resonance of the natural world; literature that contemplates eternal wrestling with time, memory, nature, being, natural contradictions.

We are drawn to slowness, subtlety, and depth — works that unfold patiently and invite immersion rather than distraction. We value honesty, silence, long durations, and words that linger in our hearts, seeking not to entertain nor purely intellectualize, but to connect presently and emotionally. This is not spiritual performance, but an emergence into offering the most concentrated forms of our art: who are we inside? Who are we in relationship with each other, with nature, with time, with reality?

Our hope is to nurture art that transcends borders of genre and geography, opening spaces for profound connection, emotional nuance and dialogue. In a time of material worship, digital noise, intellectual factionalism, and expectations of immediacy, we aspire to create and preserve moments of stillness — publications that invite us to our bodies, to the earth, and to each other.

This is not merely curation; it is an act of preservation and devotion. We believe art can cut through the mundane, evoke sacred feeling, and remind us that to exist — and to feel deeply — is itself a timeless, shared miracle.

Submission Policy

If you’re interested in working with us for a full-length project (outside of our journal, Tunings), we encourage you to read about us and explore our publications to see if your work aligns with our vision. If you're not sure, write to us and let's have a conversation.

Music: We focus exclusively on works created with acoustic instruments, including the human voice. We do not accept electronic music or pieces relying on synthesized or programmed sounds. Our central question is: in a world of limitless digital possibilities, how do the constraints and physicality of acoustic instruments change our experience of slow, immersive, long-duration music? We are fascinated by the tension between how the endurance and imperfections of acoustic sound weave into profound feeling.

Literature: We are primarily interested in poetry, essay, memoir, and fiction that explore themes of memory, longing, unanswerable questions, nature, home, the body, exile, and spirituality. We are also interested in artist philosophies and memoirs. We accept works in all languages, as long as a rough translation is provided for evaluation (if editing the book later, a part of our process will be professional translation).

Film + Photography: We focus on works where nature and the body are primary subjects. This includes dance and spiritual examinations of nature. While we prioritize analog film and video, we are glad to look at the work regardless of medium. Custom soundtracks for film are encouraged, especially if they explore our musical guidelines, including field recordings (especially analog process). Photography focused on time, experimental / antique process, long-duration, and movement are all encouraged.

Review Process: If your work resonates with our approach, we’d love to hear from you. That said, we are a small team, and our release schedule can extend up to a year or more. While we give every submission careful attention, we may not always be able to take on projects, even if we deeply appreciate them.

We respond to all submissions, even if it’s just a brief note (and even if it takes us a while). If you feel your work is a strong fit, please send your submission (without large attachments) to: submissions [at] moonbelowthesun [dot] org .

For music and film: Provide a private streaming link, along with a short bio and description of your work.

For books, photography, and writing: Provide a PDF of your work, or a description of your intentions if the project is in-progress. For photo projects, feel free to share a dropbox link or private gallery link. We encourage you to explain your project in any visual/verbal way that feels most natural to you.

We look forward to hearing from you :)
