Who We Are
Moon Below the Sun is a record label and press releasing music, writings,
photography and film. We are centered on fostering artistic connection and
unity across geographies. Our mission is to look beyond genre and medium,
with a focus on depth of feeling, emotional authenticity, and intentions of
an artist’s work.
We were conceived by
Joey Largent
in a cabin in Port Townsend, Washington in 2024, and were officially founded
in 2025. We are a nomadic label with roots in the United States, Türkiye, and Sakartvelo (Georgia).

Our Philosophy
Our musical focus is almost exclusively on analog mediums, specializing in works featuring acoustic instruments, microtonality, slow movements, and long durations. Our hope is that this return to the organic shapes and innovations of acoustic sound can serve as a reminder of our human imperfections and impermanence.
With film and photography, we are interested in works that explore concepts of time, space, memory, and especially nature and the body. We are interested in immersive experience above storytelling, and journeys that reflect on, reimagine, and capture what it is to exist. Due to the price of analog film and development, we accept digital collaborations; though analog is especially welcome. We also encourage original soundtracks to films that follow our musical guidelines, including unaltered field recordings. Collaboration with current or future label artists on this front is especially of interest to us.
In the space of writing, we are open to all formats of poetry, prose, fiction, and essay. Our interest here is specifically on writings that we feel could integrate seamlessly with the work in our other mediums. Specifically, we are interested in writings that explore nature, philosophy, humanity, spirituality and existence, not limited to genre or style. Personal essays, memoirs and philosophies by artists on our label are especially encouraged.
Our releases work to facilitate collaboration between artists of multiple genres and mediums. Because we select our releases differently, it allows us to represent artistic expressions from artists coming from all over the world — from those engaged in traditional folk arts, those who practice in a contemporary context, or those who are at the forefront of a kind of spiritual art that goes beyond materialism and explanation.
While our guidelines for art may seem quite open, we actually have found it to be quite rare in practice. This is because in order to produce work that possesses a giving, opening, intuitive, and deeply honest nature, it requires artists to have mastered their ability to use art as a language through which to articulate highly complex inner worlds and experiences. To perform in this state is arresting, aware, and possesses one’s body holistically with the emotions they convey. There is no separation or delay. Art of this caliber wields a visceral authenticity; a kind of spiritual beauty, dialogue, and darkness and light that communes with those of us who listen.
This is the work we look for. This is the work we share. We are not purely product curators or designers, but preservationists and humanists in a brief moment in the timeline of human existence. We are here to show the ways that art can cut through the world of the mundane, the digital, and the disconnected, and evoke deep feeling that is sacred; one that we can all experience together, side-by-side on the planes of timelessness.
Thank you for being here. Your support allows us in turn to support our artists, and give back to both them and you.
Submission Policy
If you’re interested in working with us, we encourage you to read our philosophy and explore our past releases to see if your work aligns with our vision.
Musically, our focus is primarily on work created with acoustic instruments, including the voice. This isn’t a statement against electronic work—in fact, we really enjoy it. However, one of the central motives in founding this label was prompted by two major questions: in a world where digital tools can create limitless sonic possibilities—where they can run passively for theoretically infinite durations—how do the constraints, physical manipulations, and organic qualities of physical instruments change how we experience slow, immersive, or long-duration music? When sound is shaped by the tension that arises between physical endurance and psycho-somatic immersion, where can this kind of work transport both the listener and the artist?
We are curious about this journey, this process, and its fruits. We are curious about how the limitations and imperfections of acoustic sound weave into the voyage of deep feeling.
If your work resonates with our approach, we’d love to hear from you. That said, we are a small team, and our release schedule can extend up to a year or more. While we give every submission careful attention, we may not always be able to take on projects, even if we deeply appreciate them.
When it comes to books, these can be a much slower and larger process for us than music or film. If we weren't able to publish at all, we simply wouldn't. But the truth is: we want to. It's just that due to these limitations, we usually take on fewer books than musical releases. But if you feel a strong aesthetic and philosophical fit with us, please don't hesitate to send us your manuscript.
We respond to all submissions, even if it’s just a brief note (and even if it takes us a while). If you feel your work is a strong fit, please send your submission (without large attachments) to submissions [at] moonbelowthesun [dot] org.
For music and film: Provide a private streaming link, along with a short bio and description of your work.
For books, photography, and writing: Provide a PDF sample of your work (for photos, 5-10 jpegs under 2mb/each in a zip or private gallery link) and a brief description of your intentions.
We look forward to hearing from you :)
